Hinckley Past & Present promoting the local history of Hinckley (Leicestershire, UK) and surrounding area of past times. The website contains a large resource of historical facts that are displayed in an easy to read format.

Many people are using the website as a resource for researching in to the history of Hinckley and the surrounding area, the website gives a great free resource for all whether you are at home researching local history or doing a school project.

Hinckley Past & Present was set up in February 2014, and has become the area’s premier group for easy accessible local history for everyone.


Local History

The Hinckley History Timeline page gives a brief history of the town, you will get a flavour of the varied past that Hinckley has had, from Roman times through to medieval, then to Victorian times (which can still be seen around Hinckley) and up to present day.

Hinckley Past & Present Facebook Group - Online Community

Our Facebook Group is a great online community for people with a link to Hinckley and surrounding area that includes Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton in the Past or in Present times.

Past – Do you like nostalgia, memories, old photos, local history and historical facts? this is the local group for you.

Present - Find old friends & workmates, local current issues, local events, present day photos.

If you have moved away from the area, the Facebook Group is the place for you to keep in contact with what is happening around the town, or if you are new or thinking about moving to Hinckley or the surrounding area then the group is good for asking various questions.

Interactive Map

The Interactive Map brings history to you by displaying buildings from the past, areas of historical interest, all blue plaque locations and old street views.

The easy to use Interactive Map has been designed to work in the comfort of your home or while you are out walking around the town centre.


Blue Plaque Campaign

We are running a Blue Plaque Campaign, which is to find all the Blue Plaques within the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough. Blue Plaques show us the buildings where famous people have lived and worked and what the building was used for in the past.


Hinckley Historian

The Hinckley Historian Magazine is written for the Hinckley Local History Group; in this section you are able to see some of the articles that we have permission to show.

You can find out about the award winning local historian Hugh Beavin and read other historical articles that were written by him.


Buildings of Hinckley

We merged with ‘The Buildings of Hinckley’ website during July 2017. This section of 41 pages is an online resource for buildings in Hinckley and the local tradesmen that include Architects, Surveyors, Engineers, Sculptors, Woodcarvers, Stonemasons and Stained-Glass Artists.


Oral History

We merged with ‘David J Wood’s Collection of Oral History’ website during March 2016. This section gives you 50 pages of more local history thorough fascinating interviews with local people giving their memories of their life and times in and around the areas of Hinckley, Burbage, Barwell, Stoke Golding, Earl Shilton, etc.


Photographic Archive

We merged with ‘Earl Shilton and Barwell Photographic Archive’ website during March 2017. This section is made up of 235 pages and 11,096 photos of local scenes and family history mainly from the area of Barwell and Earl Shilton.


War Memorial Search

Search the War Memorial of Hinckley, Burbage, Barwell, Earl Shilton and Stoke Golding, find your ancestor from our database of names from the conflicts of World War I, World War II and 20th Century Wars.


Books Online

We have a collection of Online Books that Authors have given us permission to be republished online, in an easily readable format. This enables a wider audience a chance to view a book, that may have gone out of print a number of years ago.
